4 Ways to Prepare Your Windows for Spring

After a long, hard winter, spring is finally upon us! It’s at this time of year when we most want to see the world transforming and rejuvenating itself. By taking care of your windows, you can take a front-seat view of the flowers coming up in the garden and the leaves growing back on the trees. There are many things you can do to prepare your windows for spring. Here’s what we suggest.

#1. Clean Your Windows

Make a point of cleaning your windows at least every spring and fall to enjoy the best, most unobstructed views of the world. Have the right tools on hand to get the job done. On a side note: window cleaning is much easier when you own windows when you can reach the outside of the glass from inside. Weatherstripping is an important part of maintaining an energy-efficient home, especially if you have older windows. Weatherstripping only lasts so long, so check your weatherstripping for signs that it needs to be replaced.

Look for cracks and missing segments or depressions in the weatherstripping that could lead to leaks. Weatherstripping generally lasts one or two years, but not much more. If it’s been a while since you installed weatherstripping in your house, check out the weatherstripping and make changes.

#4. Protect the Birds

One thing you’ll probably notice in spring, especially if you put up bird feeders recently or if birds start to nest around your house, is the way birds will fly into large picture windows. One of the ways you can prevent this from happening is by putting something on your windows to deter birds, like removable window stickers.
